Anybody know if Earthlink is in the process of farming out their Usenet
service? They're my secondary servers, and today I can't reach them -
either east or west - and if I telnet in to 119 I get this:

502 Permission Denied - Service restricted to EarthLink member networks
- ***@EarthLink.Net (Tornado v1.0.5.360) Connection closed by
foreign host.

I can find nothing on their site (SELL SELL SELL help SELL SELL SELL
SELL), of course. And a note I made in news.software.readers, where we
were doing some server testing, is the only thing I see at Google
Froups.

Seen or heard anything about this?

You can use this web-based newsreader.

I wouldn't touch a web gateway for NNTP with a ten-foot pole. Not even
with your ten-foot pole, if you had one and offered its use.

EL isn't even my primary news feed; most ISP news feeds suck and that
one is included, from the last time I ran a comparison with some others.

The problem turned out to be EL didn't realize I was posting from an EL
point of presence. I eventually dropped my connection, called back in
at the same access number, and all was well (other than EL being
braindead and not knowing its own access points).
